When the spirit of the Wild West meets the beauty of the countryside, ideas of freedom, courage, and adventure take on a new form.
At the foot of Mashan Mountain in Changqing, Jinan, rolling hills and expansive grasslands create a spectacular natural setting. Known as “Little California of Jinan,” Mashan Baili Farm provided an open and inspiring landscape for this playground project.

Inspired by the theme of a Western ranch, Childhood Home worked with the site’s natural terrain to integrate distinctive themed structures, diverse non-powered play experiences, and rural landscape elements. The result is Warrior Camp, an outdoor play destination that combines immersive themed experiences, physical challenges, and quality family recreation.

Designing with Nature, Not Against It
How can a distinctive play experience be created while preserving the natural character of the site?
The design follows the existing topography, using the grasslands, woodland, and natural slopes as the foundation for spatial planning. By minimizing intervention in the original landscape, the playground structures blend naturally into their surroundings.
The spirit of the American Wild West runs throughout the project. Its sense of exploration, independence, and adventure closely reflects the way children run, climb, challenge themselves, and discover the unknown.
Drawing inspiration from classic Western ranch imagery, the design incorporates elements such as windmills, barns, and cowboy hats into the play structures. Warm wood tones, varied tower forms, and distinctive slides work together to create an authentic Western-inspired play environment.
The windmill becomes an iconic feature of the main tower, while barn-inspired structures are incorporated into climbing and traversing elements. Cowboy-themed details are combined with slides to further strengthen the immersive experience.

Here, children can climb, traverse, scramble, slide, and explore, stepping directly into their own Wild West adventure. The theme is no longer simply something to look at—it becomes an experience children can physically participate in.
Signature Hay Bale Slides
Three parallel hay bale-inspired slides cascade down the slope in striking golden-brown tones, resembling waves of golden wheat flowing across the hillside.
After climbing to the top platform, children can race down the wide slides, experiencing the excitement of height, speed, and movement. With its bold visual presence and exhilarating play value, the slide becomes one of the camp’s signature attractions.
More Than a Playground
Warrior Camp is more than a collection of play structures. It is a carefully crafted adventure landscape where nature, storytelling, and active play come together.
By working with the site’s existing terrain and translating Western ranch culture into tangible play experiences, the project transforms the natural landscape into a place where children can run freely, challenge themselves, and create their own stories.
Every tower, climbing route, slide, and themed detail becomes part of the adventure. Children are encouraged to move, explore, take on new challenges, and experience the excitement of discovery—all while staying connected to the surrounding landscape.
From the freedom of the open grasslands to the thrill of a Wild West adventure, Warrior Camp turns imagination into an experience children can climb, run, and play through.
